Styling Tips

General Guidelines

-Simple, solid colors or subtle patterns work best to avoid distractions.
-Layers add depth & interest to photos. Consider cardigans, jackets, or scarves.
-Incorporate different textures (knits, denim, silk) to add visual interest without overwhelming the image.
-Ensure clothing fits well; not too tight nor too loose. Tailored looks photograph better.
-Choose outfits that you feel comfortable and confident in!

Styling Tips Highlight

Choosing the right wardrobe sets the tone for your photos. Neutral: and Natural Colors work best. Think earthy tones like beige, ivory, rust, olive, sage, and soft pastels. These colors complement nature and keep the focus on your family.

Boho-Inspired Styles such as Flowy dresses, textured fabrics, and layers work beautifully. Opt for items with movement—like maxi skirts or soft linens—to create a dreamy, effortless feel. Pick a palette of 3-4 colors and mix textures and patterns subtly. Coordinate, not matching.

Comfort First: Make sure everyone feels at ease in their outfits. Confident, happy faces are key! I want you to feel good which always looks good!

If utilizing my client wardrobe - be sure to check in with your own pieces to coordinate with me a week before your session. I have pieces for the WHOLE family including designer and boutique maternity gowns! I'll bring all the pieces with me on session day, along with my handy pop up changing tent, to make everything super easy!

Things NOT to do:

Do NOT Self Tan or get a spray tan before your session. Do NOT try to tan in the sun before your session. If you plan for any of these things do it at least 1 week prior to your session.

Get your hair dyed/cut at least 1-2 weeks before your session also. This gives you time to adjust anything you may not like.

Whiten your teeth, tint your brows, get your nails done, etc. at least 3 days before.

Do NOT wear heavy and  excessive eyelashes -  your eyes will appear closed in all the photos. Go for a full but natural look.

Try on your outfits a WEEK in advance to make sure they fit and look nice!

What to Expect During Your Session

Embracing the Elements

During your session, I’ll balance candid interactions with a few posed moments. My approach is relaxed and fun, designed to capture genuine connections and heartfelt memories.

Weather Is Part of the Story: A little wind, overcast skies, or even light rain can add a magical touch to your images.

If the setting allows, feel free to kick off your shoes and connect with the earth—it’s a small detail that creates a big impact.

Children are naturally curious and playful, and their energy brings a special charm to our sessions.

Let your little ones run, play, or collect treasures like flowers or rocks. These candid moments are often the most magical.

I’ll guide you into some posed setups but will also let moments unfold naturally to capture authentic emotions.

Tips for Families

During your session please try to obtain from pointing at the camera, overly adjusting your hair, getting upset at kiddos, overly directing or feeling frustrated at life.

Things happen, kids don't listen and the wind blows our hair all over the place - I want to capture that! It's perfect, truly, these imperfect moments are amazing and I'll capture them between the posed photos that are more expected. Relax!

As your shoot day approaches, it's helpful to have a checklist to ensure everything goes smoothly. Double-check your outfits, pack any props or accessories, and make sure you know the route to your location. Bring along some snacks and water, especially if your shoot is outdoors or will last several hours. Grab towels/baby wipes or a change of clothes too. Most importantly, arrive with a positive attitude and be ready to have fun!

The location of your photoshoot sets the backdrop for your story. Whether you choose a place that holds sentimental value or a picturesque setting, make sure it reflects your personalities. We will discuss potential locations and decide on the perfect spot. Urban settings, nature parks, beaches, or even your own home can all make for stunning photo locations. Utilize my GUIDE to see some options or reach out with ideas so we can choose something unique to you!

Be sure to get a good night's sleep before the shoot and to stay hydrated to look fresh and vibrant.

Make the whole day about your session! Enjoy a slow morning, get hair and makeup done and listen to your favorite playlist on the ride over to set the mood.

Arriving a bit early to allow for any last-minute adjustments, outfit changes, or simply to relax before the shoot begins can be helpful when anxious.

RELAX and ENJOY this!

SESSION TIME

Posing for photos can feel a bit awkward at first, but I will guide you through it. Focus on each other rather than the camera, and try to move naturally. Simple gestures like holding hands, laughing, or whispering to each other can create genuine, candid moments. The more relaxed and connected you are, the more authentic your photos will be
