A Wintertime Family Session along Yorktown Creek in Yorktown, Texas

I had the joy of working with this family over the weekend right before the cold front rolled in. It was my second time meeting mama + kiddo but this time dad got to join us to capture some precious memories.

This was a new location for me; I visit it with my family often to hike the trail and let my husband fish but this was my first time getting to capture a session here. It turned out to be a really wonderful spot that I will definitely be adding to my upcoming locations page! Our session was in the evening but I think morning would be even better here with the backdrop of trees and possibility sun streaming in through them. So many possibilities!

When they arrived I grabbed my pop up tent and the client wardrobe pieces we had discussed so they could quickly change in privacy. We walked along the over grown pathway through the natural park choosing spots to sit down and let little man play and explore as we did. At one point a silly little cat popped up on the path before diving into the bushes at lightning speed making us all laugh at its antics. We walked all the way to the back, and by all the way I mean the short ten minute stretch that connects this path to that of the cross county track at Yorktown High School.

At the end of the trail there is a small open field that even in the middle of winter still had a few wildflowers growing. The little meadow was the perfect spot to stop and let my new toddler friend play with the grass and smell dandelions. He preferred the little shoots of firework grass.

As we sat and played in the clearing, a Hawk perched above us and watched us for awhile before taking flight again. We got up and moved along. We followed the trail down to a spot with deer tracks before turning back the way we came. We walked back out through the path, along the creekside stopping here and there to take photos and play with balls of moss. We continued on the walkway, enjoying the sunset, down back under the bridge to reach our cars. They once again used my tent to change back into their regular clothes. The wind had grown chilly as the cold front blew in so we said quick goodbyes before piling into our cars. The sun was just setting as we left, it turned the entire sky pink as we drove home.
